The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association and its Homecoming Executive Team have unveiled the theme for Homecoming 2012. This year, “America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration” is ‘The Life, The Legend, The Legacy’.

“We chose this theme because it embodies the past, present and future of Homecoming at OSU,” said Grant Dixon, Homecoming 2012 executive director. “Our Homecoming has a rich history and a bright future, and the students here today recognize the tradition they’re continuing.”

T
he selection of a theme begins each year in January when the nine Homecoming executives hold a retreat to brainstorm ideas. Once a theme is selected, it is kept under wraps until the first Homecoming Steering meeting in March, which occurred Tuesday evening.

“Homecoming at Oklahoma State is such an integral part of our students’ lives during the fall semester,” said Melisa Parkerson, director of student programs. “It has left a lasting legacy on our campus and stands as a legend nationwide, and it positively impacts the lives of all of our students and alumni.”

Homecoming 2012 is Oct. 12-20 in Stillwater and will conclude with the Iowa State vs. OSU football game on Saturday, Oct. 20.

“America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration” has been presented each year by the OSU Alumni Association since 1920. It is run completely by more than 100 Homecoming student members with the collaboration of thousands in the Greek community and across the five OSU campuses.

Last year, more than 80,000 alumni and friends returned for Homecoming 2011: ‘Where Your Story Began’. As part of
Branding Success: The Campaign for OSU, the Alumni Association is raising $7 million to endow OSU’s greatest tradition and keep it “America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration” for future generations. To date, more than 100 donors have given or pledged $818,000.
