"America's Greatest Homecoming Celebration" - October 25, 2014 - WVU vs. OSU

House Decorations

"America's Greatest Homecoming Celebration" may best be known for the elaborate house decorations built each year by OSU's Greek community. House decorations got their start at Oklahoma A&M College in the 1920s when sororities began decorating their front doors for Homecoming. The tradition grew slowly over the next several decades resulting in frequent traffic jams. In 1966, vehicles were abandoned and onlookers tried a new experiment - they simply "walked around" to view the decorations. Three years later, house decorations began being judged and scored.

Today, each sorority and fraternity pair spends months planning and constructing their "house dec," which are completed and installed in grand fashion during "All-Night Pomp" the Thursday night and Friday morning of Homecoming. Each house decoration is scored by Homecoming judges Friday evening before Walkaround In 2012, more than 82,000 alumni and friends packed six square blocks in the heart of campus for Homecoming's biggest event to see the elaborate decorations and hear the stories that go with each.
